Well we have been out of action for a while but I am sure you are all busting to know what we have been up to.
Had a not so good June/July with Dad passing away and then, after much consideration, deciding that we would delay our trek around Oz until April next year. So to keep our spirits up and to ensure Stephen had a well earned rest, of course I didn't need one as I am RETIRED, we decided to take the consolation prize of a trip to Broome and the Kimberley. Sometimes life's decisions can be soooo difficult.

On 17 August we set off for Broome for a week of R&R in the sun. Our plan was to rest and revive before heading for our 'Great Escape' adventure. We previously had been to Broome in 2001 so were quite surprised by the growth of the town and of Cable Beach. It certainly is going ahead in leaps and bounds with construction going on everywhere. Caravan parks are full to the brim and resorts are hard to get into but we managed to get 6 days at the Blue Seas Resort.

The weather proved to be a little cooler than what we had remembered from our previous visit. Quite a strong wind hung around for most of the week which meant the beach was not all that pleasant, so we contented ourselves by sitting by the pool which was nicely sheltered or watching the Olympics which were in full swing. Tuesday night we were lucky enough to see the Stairway to the Moon, a natural phenomenon caused by a full moon reflecting off the exposed mudflats at Roebuck Bay at extremely low tide. This creates a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching to the moon. On the Wednesday we hired bikes an

d spent the day riding around Cable Beach and Broome. We still had the bikes until 11am on Thursday so rode around checking out the caravan parks for our 2009 adventures.
Spent our final evening sitting in the Sunset Bar watching the
sun set of course, drinking cocktails and having dinner at the Old Zoo Cafe.
I am writing this from notes I took while we are away so all postings will have a current date.
